Our 10-step Men’s Wedding Band Buying Guide
Step 1: Finding His Style
Having a strong understanding of his style is key to finding the perfect wedding ring for him. Is he flashy or does he prefer the simpler things in life? Does he dabble in dapper or does he have that scallywag swagger? What are his favorite hobbies? Who’s his favorite team? What does he like listening to or watching? What kind of jewelry does he wear? He’s going to be wearing this ring every day so choose a ring that reflects his ideal style.
Step 2: Choosing the Metal
Knowing the different precious metals that men’s wedding bands can be made of will give you an idea of the wide range of choices available and the confidence to make the best decisions. If he works with his hands, consider solid metals like platinum and tungsten that aren’t warped or scratched. If not so much Damascus steel or carbon fiber may be a better option.
Step 3: Making it Unique
You can enjoy your alliance here! Details like inlays and sleeves are a sophisticated and elegant way to add texture, color and charm to a ring. Also are available in a variety of materials and shades. Choose from a variety of materials including prehistoric dinosaur bones, mother of pearl, different woods, red or blue opal (or both!), Intricate carbon fibers and even real meteorites. Now, if you want something simple, the ideal option is a basic strap, each of which comes with many alternatives with their own characteristics.
Step 4: Setting the Width
Unlike the ring’s diameter, you won’t need to worry as much about comfort or security. Ring width is more a matter of taste and aesthetics. Ring widths between five and six millimeters are the classic size preferred by most men who wear rings. If you choose a ring with a width between seven and nine millimeters, then prepare for a ring that makes a statement. This is a great choice if your ring’s design contains an intricate inlay or an important engraving. The more classic ring widths of three and four millimeters have a much more delicate appearance, but can still be worn by those who possess more slender or elongated fingers.
Step 5: Getting His Size
Unlike an engagement ring where the purpose is to be amazed by the proposal. Make sure to find out the size of his ring for the wedding. The ring shouldn’t slip too much or fall off the finger, but it should be loose enough to slide comfortably over the ring finger joint. For maximum accuracy, measure at different times of the day at different finger temperatures. We offer several options to find the perfect ring size and a complete table of men’s ring sizes.
Step 6: Planning Your Budget
Once you know his style, you can start narrowing down your options to rings that fit within your budget. It’s important to have a set budget that you will stick to, otherwise, you might fall in love with a ring that is thousands of dollars over what you intend to spend. A respectable jeweler will help you find the perfect ring within your budget. If they try upselling you or recommending products that you’re not interested in, you may want to look elsewhere.
Step 7: Finding a Reputable Jeweler
Do you want to buy a used car without reading the CARFAX report? Also, you need to confirm the certification of the diamond you are interested in. A diamond certified by an independent laboratory. Find out more about the different laboratories and their certifications.
Professional Consulting: GIA is an industry leader and we recommend that you use GIA as a non-profit assessment laboratory.
Step 8: Having Questions
Previously in Step 6, we stated that “a respectable jeweler will help you find the perfect ring that is in your budget.” They should also give you a sense of confidence and make you feel comfortable throughout your entire buying experience. Asking questions about their return and warranty policies, as well as the overall quality of their products will ensure that you don’t run into any issues later on if something were to happen. If they’re not willing to give you this information up-front, then it’s time to look elsewhere.

FAQ for Mens Band Buying Guide
How long before wedding should you buy rings?
What generally works is to start shopping about three or four months before the wedding, then make the actual purchase at the six-week mark, at the latest. If you’re engraving the rings, it may take a few extra days until they’re ready.
Do you buy wedding rings together?
Who Buys the Wedding Bands? Tradition has it that each person pays for the other person’s ring. So in a traditional wedding, the groom or his family would pay for the bride’s ring, and the bride or her family would pay for the groom’s ring.
Which hand is a wedding ring worn on?
Just before the wedding ceremony, the engagement ring is exchanged onto the right hand so the wedding ring can be placed onto the left hand, to be worn closest to the heart. After the ceremony, the engagement ring is then placed on top of the new wedding band.
When to buy wedding rings?
Wedding rings should be purchased 3-4 months before the actual wedding. We recommend this time frame because it covers almost all steps and issues that may occur in the purchase of a wedding ring.
